What affects the result of your lamination?
1. Hair quality and hair type
Some hair types respond less effectively to one-step lamination. Very coarse, strong or Asian hair often needs longer processing than the product allows; very soft or fine hairs can become overprocessed; and heavily treated hair (bleaching, colouring or previous damage) may be too porous. Hormones can also affect results — during pregnancy, lamination and tinting may not hold as well or may fade faster.
2. Insufficient cleansing and prep
If the hairs aren't properly degreased, the product doesn't penetrate as well and results are weaker. Common issues: skincare or serums left on the area, oily skin or sebum, and leftover makeup.
3. Incorrect processing time
Even though it's “one step”, timing matters. Too short: the hairs don't change structure, so there's no lamination effect. Too long: the hairs can weaken and fall back into their natural shape after only a few days.
4. Product amount and saturation
The product must be applied evenly and saturate every hair. Too little and the hairs won't process; too much means poor control and uneven processing.
5. Incorrect placement or shaping
If the hairs aren't brushed into the correct direction before the product sets, they won't “remember” the desired shape.
6. Chemical resistance
Some clients naturally have hair that resists chemical restructuring. It's genetic and can lead to weaker or shorter-lasting results.
7. Too much or incorrect aftercare
You can accidentally ruin the results with moisture, steam or washing within the first 24 hours, oil-based products on brows/lashes, strong cleansers, or scrubs and exfoliants on the area.
8. Old or incorrectly stored product
Old or oxidised lamination products lose their effectiveness. Incorrect storage (too hot, too cold or too much light) weakens the formula.
9. One-step isn't strong enough for all hair types
One-step lamination is gentler and quicker, but it's not always strong enough for coarse or stubborn hair, and there's less control compared to a traditional 1–2–3 system.
